Recent Natural Disasters

• Tornado in Norman, Oklahoma
  -At least 10 people injured when a tornado hit Norman, Oklahoma (USA).
  -Tornado touched down near University of Oklahoma.
  -Following The National Weather Service, more violent tornadoes and extreme weather are expected Saturday. Several tornadoes may hit from Texas to Minnesota this weekend.
  -Around 61 flights were cancelled in San Francisco Airport after lightning hit the area. About 3,000 lightning strikes were reported statewide!
  -Two were injured when two tornadoes touched Oklahoma three days ago.

  Weather forecast for today (Saturday): Partly cloudy, windy and warm. Chance of thunderstorms.Severe storms most likely including large hail and tornadoes.
  
• Sandstorms and Flash flood in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  -Sandstorm turned the visibility to zero in Qassim, King Fahd, Khurais and Makkah roads of Riyadh.
  -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in various parts of city.
  -The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME), Saudi had already issued warning of extreme weather and flash flood across the state.
  -Sandstorm also hit the eastern part. Hailstorm was reported in Asir.
  -No major damage to life and property so far.
  -About a month ago, sandstorm disrupted air traffic in Yemen (Sanaa's international airport) and several schools were closed in north, east and south-west part of Saudi Arabia.

• M 6.5 very strong shallow sea quake in Vanuatu (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 80 km NW of Isangel. People in Isangel will have felt strong shaking. Moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt in Port-Vila. Light to weak shaking will have experienced across We, Tadine, Fayaoue, La Foa, Thio and Canala.

• M 5.9 strong earthquake in Sunda Strait, Indonesia (@ 49 km depth) with epicenter located 28km WSW from Tugu Hilir. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of  Labuhan, Rangkasbitung, Serang, Kresek, Pandegelang and Cikupa. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt in Tangerang, Bekasi, Tanjungkarang-Telukbetung, Jakarta and Depok region of Indonesia.
  Stephen C from Jakarta writes, "Building (30 + floors) started swaying at exactly 2:30am, Sun 15th April 2012."

• M 5.3 moderate shallow aftershocks of the west coast on Northern Sumatra (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 684 km SW Banda aceh. M 8.7 massive earthquake Off Indonesia killed 5 people some days ago.

• M 6.2 very strong shallow but harmless sea quake in Drake Passage (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 358 km SSE of Ushuaia. Weak shaking will have as far as Punta Arenas (Chile) and Rio Grande (Argentina).

• M 3.0 weak shallow earthquake in Oklahoma (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km  ESE from Lamar. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Stuart, Lamar and Hanna.
  Neal Wise from Morris, Oklahoma writes, "At 3:22 a.m. April 14, 2012, I was awakened by what sounded like someone running across a wooden floor.....a sort of rumbling. Since our house is on a cement slab, I thought it was an earthquake. I see on here that there was a slight earthquake near Shawnee but it was an hour earlier."

• M 4.3 moderate shallow earthquake in Maharashtra, India (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 27 km S Chiplun. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Pune, Pimpri, Satana, Panaji, Mira Bhayandar and Mumbai.

  M 2.9 another earthquake recorded in Maharashtra with epicenter in Vamka taluka in Kutch.
  Update
  Earthquake was felt about 3-5 seconds in Juhu, Mumbai. No damage to life and property reported so far.
• M 4.4 moderate shallow earthquake in Sulawesi, Indonesia (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km NW Luwuk. Light shaking of MMI II-III will have felt as far as Gorontalo of Sulawesi, Indonesia.
  There have been nine M 7.5+ earthquakes recorded from the Kai Islands to Sumba since 1900 with largest of M 8.5 in 1938 in Banda Sea.

• Colombia/Nevado del Ruiz recent volcanic activity
  -The Nevado del Ruiz volcano is still at ORANGE activity level (Level II) which means eruption may occur within days or weeks. Some days ago, RED ALERT was issued to Nevado del Ruiz volcano
  -Following Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Manizales, during last 24 hours, the volcanic system remains unstable just only with high emissions of sulfur dioxide.

  More than 1100 people evacuated after flooding in state of Perak.
• Flash flood in Cagayan, Philippines

Natural Disaster News

• Thunderstorm/lightning in Kolkata, India
  -8 killed after lightning stuck in an open agricultural field.
  -Thundershowers are still expected for at least two days because of a cyclonic circulation over Bihar and the adjoining West Bengal region.
  -Dust storm and thunderstorm reported in Jaipur.
  -Thunderstorm has become common disaster in India. Yesterday at least 14 were killed in thunder/hailstorms in India.
