  • Massive earthquake in Banda Aceh, Indonesia
    -M 8.7 Massive earthquake shakes West coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 02:38 local time. The quake's epicenter was 434 km SW from Banda Aceh.
    -An Indian Ocean-wide tsunami alert issued for 28 countries, including Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Burma and Thailand.
    -Earthquake was so powerful that tremor was felt as far away as Singapore, Burma and even as far away as India and Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
    -GDACS has issued RED TSUNAMI ALERT. In December 2004, a giant 9.1 quake triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed 230,000 people, nearly three quarters of them in Aceh. Click for detail update report on this Indonesia Quake
  • Flash floods in Haiti
    -Six killed and at least 700 displaced by flooding in Limbe and Anse-a-Foleur area of Haiti.
    -Continuous rainfall from last three days have caused landslides in various areas.
    -About 125 houses reported to be damaged.
    -Two people were killed two days earlier by flooding on the northern departments and nord'ouest of Haiti.
    -Flooding is a common disaster in Haiti after rainfall due to poor drainage system.

  • M 6.5 strong shallow earthquake in Michoacan, Mexico (@ 20 km depth) with epicenter located  9 km NW of Lazaro Cardenas. About 15,000 people will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI. People of La Orilla, Lazaro Cardenas, Arteaga, Las Guacamayas, Aguililla, La Mira Tumbiscatio will have felt moderate shaking of MMI V.   • M 5.9 very strong sea quake Off the coast of Oregon (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located  271 km W of Coos Bay. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Oregon City, McMinnville, Neskowin, Portland, Albany, Lincoln City, Brookings, Coos Bay, North Bend, Reedsport and Medford.
    USGS reports it to be felt as far as Eureka (CA), Oak Harbor (WA) and Vancouver (Canada).

  • M 3.2 weak very shallow earthquake in Albania (@  2 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km W Fushë-krujë. Weak shaking will have felt even by the people of Tirana.

  • M 5.3 moderate deep earthquake in Banda Sea (@ 132 km depth) with epicenter located 20 km S of Trana. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tual and Ambon.

  • M 4.4 moderate deep earthquake in Jujuy, Argentina (@ 226 km depth) with epicenter located 70 km W of Abra Pampa. Weak shaking will have exprienced by the people of Villazón and Jujuy.

  • M 4.3 moderate earthquake in Bajhang-Bajura border region of Nepal with epicenter close to Manakot, a village in Bajura District in the Seti Zone of north-western Nepal.   • Tsunami warning in 28 different countries
    -A Tsunami warning was issued in 28 different countries following massive quake off Indonesia.
    -Tsunami wave observed at 09:56 UTC in DART 23401, in the Indian Ocean. The tsunami wave's height was 0.03 meters (0.1 feet).
    -Three mini tsunami occurred in Lahewa (North Nias), Meulaboh, and Sabang of Indonesia.
    Lahewa: 1.0 metres
    Meulaboh: 0.8 metres
    Sabang:  0.06 metres
    -Tsunami wave also observed in in Trinconmalee, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka at 11:16 UTC. The tsunami wave's height was 0.04 meters (0.1 feet)
    -In Ko Taphao Noi, Phuket Province, Thailand Tsunami wave was observed at 11:43 UTC with waveheight 0.05 metres (0.2 feet)
