Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Phrae, Thailand
    -Flash floods reported in several parts of Phrae.
    -Train service to the north suspended in Uttaradit.
    -Mudslide in Den Chai district. Ban Huay Rai school reported to be closed.
    -Yom River overflowed its banks in Sam Ngam district. Several homes were flooded.
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding and landslide in this area.

  • M 3.7 light shallow earthquake in Baja California, Mexico with epicenter located 65 km WSW from Guadalupe Victoria. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Mexicali, Calexico and Tijuana.

  • M 4.9 moderate shallow earthquake in Southern Iran (@ 33 km depth) with epicenter located 87 km N of Bushehr. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Bushehr, Kazerun and Behbahan.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Central Peru (@ 10 km depth) today with epicenter located 66 km E of Lima. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Nicolás de pierola, Chosica and Lima [Recent natural disasters in Peru]

  • M 4.3 light shallow earthquake in New South Wales, Australia (@ 17 km depth) with epicenter located 17km W of Manilla. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Armidale and Muswellbrook.

    Update
    -Two light earthquakes reported in the same area.
    -Tremors were well felt in Manilla, Tamworth, Gunnedah and Coonabarabran.
    -According to Australian Seismological Centre, these were the first earthquakes greater than magnitude 4 to strike inland northern NSW since December 1969. Click here for detail report on this australian quake.
  • M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Eastern Honshu, Japan (@ 20 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km E from Iwaki. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kitaibaraki and Iwaki. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Fukushima and Mito.

  • M 4.2 light earthquake near the Coast of Nicaragua (@ 79 km depth) with epicenter located 43 km SSW of Managua. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of San rafael del sur, Granada, Rivas and Masaya.

Volcanic Activity List
  • Colombia/Nevado del Ruiz recent volcanic activity
    -Twenty four families near Nevado del Ruizo volcano area evacuated.
    -Evacuated families will get a compensation of 150,000 pesos from the Municipal Office for the Prevention of Natural Disasters.
    -The current alert level for Nevado del Ruiz is orange.
    -The Colombian volcano Nevado del Ruiz is an active stratovolcano with a history of generating deadly volcanic mudflows (lahars) from relatively small-volume eruptions.
  • Chile/San Pedro-Pellado recent volcanic activity
    -An earthquake swarm with possibly hundreds of small quakes detected at San Pedro-Pellado (or Tatara-San Pedro) volcano of Chile.
    -Volcano hasn’t erupted in decades. It is potentially the first in recorded history.

    -Tropical cyclone (tc) 20s (kuena) is located approximately 240 nm south of the seychelles.
    -Seychelles is an island country some 1,500 kilometres east of mainland Africa, northeast of the island of Madagascar.

    -Natural disasters, mainly floods, hailstorms and droughts killed 157 people in China in May.
    -The natural disasters also severely damaged around 133,000 homes.
