Recent Natural Disasters
Somali_refugee_camps_flooded_recent_natural_disasters
Somali refugees in Dollo Ado; Source UNHCR
  • Flooding in Ethiopia and Kenya
    -Following the UN refugee agency, heavy rainfall caused flooding in Somali refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya.
    -Worst affected is Dollo Ado in Southern Ethiopia. A week before about 700 refugee tents were damaged by heavy rainfall in Dollo Ado.
    -Several roads including Hilaweyn (way to camps) is flooded.
    -Dadaab refugee complex in Kenya is also affected by heavy rainfall. About 460,000 refugees are currently living in Dadaab refugee complex. There is chance of spreading Malaria. So, 220,000 nets will be distributed to those living in Dadaab's Ifo, Dagahaley and Hagadera camps.

  • M 4.1 strong very shallow earthquake in Baja California, Mexico (@ 0.2 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km SW from Guadalupe Victoria. Light shaking will have felt by the people of Alberto Oviedo Mota, Guadalupe Victoria and Delta. People of Estacion Coahuila, Puebla, Hermosillo, San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexicali, Calexico, El Centro and Yuma will have felt a weak shaking.

  • M 5.7 moderate sea quake in New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea (@ 48 km depth) with epicenter located 125 km S of Rabaul. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kokopo and Rabaul. People of Namatanai will have experienced a weak shaking.

  • M 3.1 weak very shallow earthquake in Spain (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located just below Sils. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Blanes, Mataró and Barcelona.

  • M 4.1 moderate shallow earthquake in Southern California (@ 10 km depth) today with epicenter located 3 km NW from Devore. Light shaking will have felt by the people of Muscoy. People of Crestline, Rialto, Fontana, San Bernardino, Bloomington, Riverside, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Long Beach and Los Angeles will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III.   • M 6.4 strong deep sea quake in Tonga (@ 129 km depth) with epicenter located 78 km W of Neiafu. Moderate shaking willl have felt by the people of Neiafu. People of Pangai, Nuku`alofa, Havelu and Vaini will have experienced light shaking of MMI IV. No Tsunami warning issued.

  • M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Vancouver Island, Canada Region (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 166 km W of Port Hardy. Just a weak shaking will have felt as far as Gibsons city of British Columbia region.

  • M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Eastern Turkey (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 59 km SSE of Bingol. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Lice. Weak shaking will have felt in Batman, Bingol and Mus region of Turkey.

    -Explosive activity at Karymsky volcano continues.
    -Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) ASL could occur at any time.
    -Activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft.
    -Karymsky which is the most active volcano of Kamchatka's eastern volcanic zone has current aviation color code Orange.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in British Colombia, Canada
    -People in the Indian Rock area near Naramata forced to leave after flooding in the South interior of B.C.
    -The dam on Chute Lake overflowed.
