Thailand flood 2011: Death Toll Increased To 762, Flood Still Prevail In 9 Provinces (updated)

Disaster Report: Thailand Flood has killed about 762 people till now. The death toll is still to increase more. Out Of Thailand's 77 provinces, 9 are still affected.

UPDATE 12/18/2011
- The death toll has risen to 740 with three still missing. Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon and Bangkok are still suffered from flood.

UPDATE 12/14/2011

-The death toll has risen to 708 with three still missing. Bangkok, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Samut Sakhon are still sufferring from the flood
-In the South the flooding has caused damage to 118,358 rai of farmland, seven monasteries and mosques, 30 schools, 10 government offices, 783 roads, 113 bridges, 19 weirs and 1,068 fish ponds.
-10 people are confirmed dead (one in Nakhon Si Thammarat, two each in Phatthalung, Songkhla and Yala, and three in Narathiwat).

-The Thai government estimates the flood damage at 1.3 trillion baht
-Flood-hit residents in Pathum Thani have demanded that the government pay them 30,000 baht each as compensation. 


UPDATE 12/12/2011

-The death toll has risen to 693 with three still missing.
-The Meteorological Department of Thailand yesterday issued a warning for people in Upper Thailand to be ready for cold weather. Cooler weather with a drop of 2-3 degree Celsius and a strong wind are likely to cover the North, Northeast, East and Central regions

 

UPDATE 12/11/2011
-Death toll has risen to 689. Still 10 provinces are affected. The provinces are Angthong, Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon and Bangkok.

-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said , the recent floods had caused about 1.3 trillion baht in damage to the country.

UPDATE 12/08/2011

- The officials said that the government will downsize the Flood Relief Operations Command from today as the worst of the flood crisis is now over
-There is around 8 billion cu/m of floodwater still in some central provinces north of Bangkok
-There is only a small volume of floodwater on the eastern side of Bangkok as it drained out faster than expected through the Bang Pakong River.
-
Health authorities today claimed that, "No major disease outbreaks related to the flood crisis have been found, though risks still remain for residents returning to their homes"


UPDATE 12/07/2011

-Officials reported today that the level of the flood at Bang Sai had dropped by 11 centimetres overnight to 2.29 metres above sea level.
-Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) said it will lose about 3 billion baht in revenue in the final quarter of this year due to the flood crisis

-Death toll has now risen to 684 with three still missing. The flooding still prevails in 15 provinces, affecting, 4,733,137 people. The provinces are Chai Nat, Angthong, Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Bangkok, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phatthalung.



UPDATE 12/04/2011
-Flood situation is now normal in 11 district of the capital. The districts are Chatuchak, Lat Phrao, Lak Si, Bueng Khum, Chom Thong, Bangkok Yai, Bangkok Noi, Bang Phlad, Phasi Charoen, Bang Khun Thian and Bang Bon



UPDATE 12/03/2011  
-Floods still prevail in 16 provinces, including three in the South (Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla) provinces
-Water gates, Khlong Sam Wa watergate  raised to 1.40m high from 90cm, and Lam Bung Kwang to 1.40m from 1.30m to drain water out of Pathum Thani province
-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today, Most of the flooded areas in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani are expected to turn dry this month

-The areas east of Bangkok, main roads and commercial areas are fine now.
-Water in major canals west of Bangkok are nearly normal and no longer overflowing but major canals in Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi are still overflowing

-Om Koi and Samoeng districts of Chiang Mai provinces areas sufferring from the cold weather.


UPDATE 12/02/2011
-Hi-Tech Industrial Park resumed operations yesterday
-About 10 of 140 factories in the estate are ready to restart production
-Two hackers arrested, who are believed to have stolen more than five million baht from bank accounts for donations to help flood victims.



UPDATE 12/01/2011

- Death toll has risen to 666 with three still missing. The floods still prevail in 21 provinces including Bangkok, affecting 5,162,319 people .The provinces are Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Angthong, Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakhan, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Bangkok, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Songlkhla, Phatthalung, Yala and Pattani. Yesterday, the official data was 661.
-Some experts suggested the government invest around 200 billion baht to build a 100km-long tunnel under the eastern section of the outer ring road to prevent future flooding in and around the capital.


UPDATE 11/30/2011

-Death toll has risen to 661 with three people still missing. Still the flood prevails in 14 provinces in Thailand. The provinces are Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Angthong, Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakhan, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao and Bangkok. Also in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Songkhla, Phatthalung, Yala and Pattani area. Two people were killed in Songkhla and Yala area.
-The reopening of 91 schools which are run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has been postponed from Dec 6 to Dec 13 due to high flood levels.


UPDATE 11/29/2011

-Skal Club of Hua Hin and Cha-am, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin, presents "Reach Out, Rebuild and Restore", a flood charity fundraising concert at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin on Saturday at 6:30pm.
Tickets cost 1,500 baht, including pre-show cocktail buffet and wine.

-A new World Bank report estimates public spending on post-flood rehabilitation in Thailand could reach 235 billion baht by 2014.Thailand's public debt now stands at 40.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), while the debt ceiling stands at 60% or 600 billion baht.


UPDATE 11/28/2011

- One person is reported to be killed in southern flood due to huge water from Malaysia side.
-The World Bank said today that reviving Thailand's flood stricken economy will cost about 756 billion baht.
-JF theatre programme is cancelled including shows on Dec 2, 3 and 9, due to the flood crisis in Bangkok



UPDATE 11/27/2011
- Songkhla is in HIGH ALERT as high rainfall in neighbouring Malaysia could cause widespread damage in the Songkhla province. Note that eight districts in Songkhla has already been declared disaster zones. 
-In Nong Chik district, floods have displaced 930 people and affected more than 23,000 others.
- Two more dead bodies are reported to be found but yet to be confirmed.


UPDATE 11/26/2011

-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said in her radio address today to keep watch for possible flooding in Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Also told to install more water pumps in flooded area to drain the water effectively.
-World Bank Aid said today in a report that the devastating floods have caused 1.4 trillion baht in estimated damage till now and are likely to slash Thailand's economic growth to 2.4% this year.

UPDATE 11/25/2011

- Still the water level remain high at 1.5 meters in Industrial estate.
-Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) is willing to run pilot programme to prevent the area from flooding (mainly the industrial area)
-The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has postponed the reopening of schools from December 6 to December 13.
The students of  Sai Mai, Don Muang, Thawee Watthana, Nong Khaem, Bang Khae, Lak Si and Bang Bon districts classes has been delayed.


UPDATE 11/24/2011

-Officials in Songkhla has issued warning message today morning to prepare for dangerous flash flood and heavy rainfall once again. The warning prevails till November 26.
 People in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat  region are in HIGH ALERT.


UPDATE 11/23/2011

-Now the death toll due to Thailand Flood has risen to 610 with two still missing. The earlier government data was 602 three days ago.
-The Meteorological Department of Thailand has issued a public notice today to prepare for heavy rainfall and flash flood in nine Southern Province. It has warned the people living near hillsides and waterways in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. There will be strong wind-generated 2 to 3-metre-high waves in the Gulf of Thailand.

UPDATE 11/22/2011 
- The government officials has issued a warning notice to Eastern part of South Thailand to prepare for heavy rainfall and flash flood which will last to end of this month. Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Patthalung, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat are the areas in HIGH ALERT.

-People are asking for more water pumps to drain flood water out of their area.

The death due to Thailand flood has risen to 602. yesterday, the official report was 595.

UPDATE 11/19/2011
 
-Death toll due to Thailand Flood has now risen to 595 with two still missing.
-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said today (Saturday) that areas in inner Bangkok will not be flooded.

-About 63 million cubic meter of water has been draining out from the areas per day in flood affected areas currently.



UPDATE 11/18/2011
-The death due to Thailand Flood is increasing day by day. Yesterday the government officials gave the data of 567 deaths. Now the data is increased to 594 with two still missing.
-The floods still prevail in 19 provinces, affecting 5,146,819 people.
-
Water is still more than 2 meters deep around some factories in Ayutthaya province.

-Officials said that some parts of the capital may be flooded until January.

UPDATE 11/17/2011
 

-Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Thursday that death toll has now risen to 567 with two people still missing.
Yesterday (November 16)department reported death toll at 564.
-US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today visited Rajamangala National Stadium flood relief centre to meet with the flood victims.

-U.S. has offered $10 million aid package to the flood victims.
-Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) for October went down to 89.0, from 90.7.


UPDATE 11/16/2011 (3:50 UTC , November 16)

-Now the death toll due to Thailand flood has risen to 564 with two more dead bodies found yesterday.
Still two are missing.
The floods still prevail in 20 provinces, affecting 5,305,559 people.
The provinces are Nakhon Sawan, Chainat, Singburi, Angthong, Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Roi Et, Kalasin, Chechoengsao, Nakhon Nayok and Bangkok.
-Eight communities in the Bang Kapi area are advised today to evacuate to safer ground.
-About 200 angry residents from Pathum Thani province removed sandbags from top of the "big bag" floodwall on Phahon Yothin Road demanding the entire  huge sandbag structure from Chulalongkorn sluice gate to Navanakorn Industrial Park in Pathum Thani be dismantled, so that floodwater could drain out of their area. These are the people whose houses have been flooded already.
-
The people in Lat Lum Kaew, Pathum Thani and Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi residents have to live with floods for a little longer .
-Good news is that Authorities have  drained floodwater in the soi to nearby canal, lowering the flood level by about 10cm. Water at Chulalongkorn sluice gate and other gates continue to decline.
-
Thai stocks opened down 0.78 point at the start of trade Wednesday morning.

UPDATE 11/15/2011
-Thain PM tlod the flood victim to be patient through her Facebook page. People are angry as the water level is still at the same level. Now who is going to look Facebook page, they questioned!!The angry resident of flooded Bangkok even protested blocking the major highway.
-Thai academics warned, the large volume of polluted flood water being released into the Gulf of Thailand could greatly affect marine life.
-Thailand's flood-hit electronics sector is expected to take two to six months to resume operations

UPDATE 11/14/2011
-The flooding level is receding in parts of Bangkok but still remains high on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river.
-Many main roads are still closed in the western Thonburi area.Very less number of local buses so most people have to rely on army trucks or small boats which are always packed.
-The overhead Sky train and underground railway have stayed open throughout, even in flooded areas.
-After a month,due to the devastating floods in Thailand, Japanese motor giant Honda has resumed production at one of its plants in Thailand on Monday.
-Authorities estimate that about 16,000 residents have taken shelter in 163 evacuation centers in Bangkok
