Thailand Flood 2011: Death Toll Climbed To 533 , Six Province At The Risk Of Landslide And Flash Flood

Disaster Report: Thailand flood has killed about 533 people. Due to flooding in Thailand, more than 5,000 people have lost their jobs as more than 20,000 companies in 16 provinces had been hit by floods.

 -Flood water has receded in 11 Bangkok district.Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said that within two weeks, main roads in Bangkok will be dry.
-Bangkok officials said floodwaters receded further in areas north and east of the Thai capital. A 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) wall of sandbags has slowed the flow of water into northern districts

-According to Airports of Thailand (AOT),temporary floodwater barrier is being constructed at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. It will take around 2 months to get the airport reopen.

11/12/2011 

-The government of Thailand has issued an apology for its slow response to the flooding crisis across the country.
-It is reported that flood waters have started to recede in Bangkok's northern parts but even level is high in the western and eastern sections of the capital.
-An estimated 4 billion cubic meters of water still needs to make its way to the sea, 30 kilometers south of Bangkok's center. Bangkok deputy governor Theerachon Manomaiphiboon said today that flooding has begun to recede in the capital's 11 northern districts.
-The UN refugee agency is donating 5,000 special ecofriendly solar lamps worth US$250,000 (Bt7.5 million) to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for the victim of Thailand Flood.
However Thai government has not asked UNHCR for any assistance.

-The death toll has climbed to 533
 

-Thailand Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said today that areas in the western part of Bangkok will totally be inundated by the runoff from the North.
He further said the flood-free main road to southern region, Rama 2 Road, will also be flooded, and therefore the government needs to find other channels for people to go to the South and return to Bangkok.
The government must also implement measures to effectively provide assistance for the flood victims in the western areas of the capital. The flood there is expected to last for about one month, he added.
-The flood situation in the Eastern part is improving but Thai government is still worried about how to prevent the Bang Chan industrial estate in Min Buri from flooding!
-The central bank has hack its economic growth forecast for this year to 2.6 percent from 4.1 percent.
-It is estimated that the Thailand Flood would cut foreign tourist arrivals this year by up to 800,000 from the 18 to 19 million earlier expected.
-Analysts said Thai flooding will significantly slow the global production of personal computers well into 2012.



UPDATE 11/10/2011
-The officials said Bangkok city will be flood free in 11 days.
The irrigation department said Wednesday that nearly half of the 14 billion cubic meters of northern runoff that has threatened Bangkok for the past month had already flowed into the sea. Another 3 billion cubic meters had entered the Chao Phraya River, leaving about 5 billion cubic meters to deal with which will take 11 more days to evacuate.
-Evacuations in 18 of the city’s 50 districts is announced by the Bangkok officials. Pumps and canals are used  to prevent water in northern Bangkok from draining into the main business areas of Silom and lower Sukhumvit.
-Thailand’s benchmark SET Index fell 0.5 percent at the midday break, which has risen 4.3 percent over the past month. The baht weakened 0.4 percent to 30.83.
-Japanese automaker Toyota Motor said it will resume production in Thailand Nov 21.The production was halted from October 10 due to over flooding in Thailand.Toyata Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. has 13,500 employees with registered capital of Bt7.5 billion.

The Flood Relief Operations Center Thailand announced today that the death toll has risen to 529 with two persons still listed as missing.
-As of Wednesday (today), some 26 provinces are inundated and six provinces in the South are at risk for landslide and flash flood due to heavy rainfall.
Major dams with water retention capacity at critical level are Bhumibol (99 per cent), Sirikit (98 per cent), Kwai Noi (100 per cent) and Pasak (130 per cent).

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today submitted the 2012 Budget Bill outlining Bt 2.38 trillion. The government has earmarked Bt120 billion for flood recovery and restoration spendings.

-Thailand's energy minister Pichai Naripthaphan said the flood crisis in Bangkok is likely to drag on for another month.
-Thai Delta electronics, the biggest tech firm by market value posted a July-September net profit of 752 million baht ($25 million), down from 1.63 billion baht a year earlier and lower than the 911.7 million baht in the second quarter.It is expected even less earning in the fourth quarter as the flood crisis has forced the closure of several large industrial estates where electronic-component plants are located.

Thailand's prime minister has cancelled plans to attend a Pacific trade forum in Hawaii this weekend. "Now it's time for all Thai people to help each other, so I've informed (the host) that I would not go," Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said.
-A statement issued by Thai President Piyasvasti Amranand said, "Thai Airways International will temporarily move some operations to Suvarnabhumi Airport, as the headquarters on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road suffer from floods and transportation inconvenience"
-The Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand said, the Thai tourism industry will face an estimated revenue loss of up to US$825 million (about RM2.4 billion) and a drop in international arrivals by 300,000 tourists if the current flood prolong until end of next month.He further added US$275 million (about RM825 million) estimated losses would be from international tourism and US$245 million (about RM735 million) from domestic tourism.
-From Nov 1 to Nov 3, the number of arrivals at Suvarnabhumi International Airport was 72,000, a decrease of 25 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation told that till today 506 people are died and 2 are missing.
-
Some 20 percent of the city in northern, eastern and western areas has already been swamped and the inner city is likely to be flooded.
-
The flooding situation has receded in some upstream provinces but still prevails in 25 provinces in northeastern and central regions including the capital Bangkok city
-As the authority told the Bangkok Post today, damage claims from Thailand's flood crisis will exceed 20 billion U.S. dollars which is actually greater than the impact of the tsunami that occurred  in Japan. More than 5,000 people have lost their jobs as more than 20,000 companies in 16 provinces had been hit by floods.
- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) recently  conducted survey which revealed  that some 470 spots in the capital city have been submerged under 80cm-high flood waters. Almost 10 percent of the city's population in those flood-hit spots have been affected.

More than 720 Japanese companies in Thailand have been affected by the flood crisis.

A survey conducted by ABAC Poll shows that 72.6 percent in Thailand's flood-hit areas suffer most from rising food prices.

Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra today declared more evacuation zones in four districts which are Pakklong Phasicharoen, Bang Wa and Koohasawan sub-districts in Phasi Charoen district; the whole of Nong Kaem district; Saensaeb sub-district of Minburi district; and Klong Sib, Koofangnua and Kokfad sub-districts of Nong Jok district.
-Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said her government has provided 182 million baht in cash aid to help flood victims. Phitsanulok and Nakhon Sawan province will be first to be benefited with the rehabilitation drive and said will begin soon in Ayutthaya province too.
-The flood water is predicted to possibly later reach the Victory Monument, which is a major transit point of the capital.-Central province of Nakhon Sawan has the highest toll of 61 people.
-Seventy main highways in 13 provinces are flooded

-Thailand floods has killed about 450 people, affected the lives of up to 3 million others and  caused damage estimated at $5.6 billion till today.
-Flood water is less than 10 kilometer far away from the heart of the Thai capital.

-The government has asked residents in eight of the city's 50 districts to evacuate and said today that Bangkok authorities have set up 231 evacuation centers capable of holding more than 65,000 people.
-According to Transport Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat, the building of a six kilometres long 'Big Bag' barrier was completed to curb the flood from the north from overflowing into inner Bangkok.The action is expected to reduce water overflowing into Don Muang, Lak Si and Bang Khen districts.
-Today PM Yingluck Shinawatra visited  Nakhon Sawan and told flood victims that province will be model for rehabilitation which is set to finish in 45 days.
-Bangkok's well-protected centre is only at risk of "minor" flooding, the Thai premier said, as the deluge closed in on the metropolis, inundating roads and threatening several subway stations.

The death toll is at 442, the Interior Ministry said.
The water has yet to reach the city's central business district, but the government has asked residents in eight of the city's 50 districts to evacuate.Of Thailand's 64 provinces, 25 have been affected.
Remember that the floods have severely affected over 30 provinces in north and central Thailand.
-The Thailand property awards Gala Dinner has been postponed to Tuesday the 6th of December due to the flooding situation in Bangkok.

-OCHA has provided nearly $100,000 to the International Thai Red Cross to purchase over 1,500 cooking stoves, and nearly 7,000 gas cans
-IOM has received $500,000 from USAID to purchase boats, motors, lifejackets, and generators.
-UNHCR has provided $50,000 for the Government’s flood response efforts.
-WHO has provided $170,000 to support response workers, and purchase life jackets and basic medical kits for affected families.
-UNFPA has made available $150,000 USD to support the response effort during the acute and early recovery phases.

-The death toll of Thailand floods is at 437

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) said that it will still operates regular flights in/out of Suvarnabhumi Airport, so the ticket is open for its flight. Though there are many areas in central region affected by flood, Suvarnabhumi is one which is not affected till date.This can be somewhat relief for the people in that area.

While there is flooding in a number of provinces in the central region, including some areas in Bangkok, there are also many areas not affected such as Suvarnabhumi Airport. Travellers can continue to visit those areas by connections at Suvarnbhumi Airport.
- Bangkok governor has issued evacuation order today for entire Bang Khae district as water level raised higher. Bangchan Industrial Estate is on high flood alert as water level raised to 68cm above mean sea level.Min Buri Prison major Cineplex Ratchayothin are closed now.
-Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. and Chevron Thailand Limited announced today that it will contribute US$2 millions for the flood victims.
 -Generali Thailand which is one of the world’s leading insurance and financial companies has sent a team to Lopburi province, Prommard district and Taitalard district to donate THB 200,000 along with a host of essential day to day items to flood victims.
-Buddy Group which is a fast growing company operating hotels, resorts and restaurants in Bangkok has launched a new strategy of providing every 50 THB for each room’s revenue to a fund for flooded victims.
-Damco which is a global leader in supply chain solutions and freight forwarding, is helping to deliver essential survival kits to the flood victims.

Over ten thousand Thais are joining forces at Ratchaprasong Do D Volunteers to Help Flood Victims.

 -Prime minister ordered the agency today to speed up the rehabilitation plan.
-The flood water has now entered the Petchkasem Road causing disturbance in passing of vehicles.
-Water level at Bangchan Industrial Estate is continuously  rising.
-Japanese company Honda has announced to cut its productions at its plants in North America as the required parts are not delivered by Thailand due to flood. The launch of the 2012 Honda CR-V could also be delayed the company said quoting the same reason of flood in Thailand. Remember that Most of the parts for Honda and Acura vehicles are sourced from North American suppliers, but "a few critical electronic parts" come from Thailand.

Thailand has been hit by one of its worst floods that have killed 427+ people since July. One of the areas hardest hit is the central province of Ayutthaya where flooding forced the closure of nearly 200 factories. Water is also approaching central Bangkok from the northern Don Muang district, where the city's domestic airport has already been flooded.
But huge amounts of water are bottled up to the north, west and east of the city, and new areas are being flooded daily as the water tries to find its way out to sea to the south.
