Lightning strike in Brazzaville, Congo kills 20

April 2, 2020: At least 20 people have been killed due to the lightning strike in Kintele, a suburb of Brazzaville, the Republic of the Congo (Congo Republic). The high voltage cables broke up over the lightning caused by rains leading to electrocution in the Brazzaville area. Atleast dozen of people are still having treatment at the Talangai Reference Hospital. Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain is forecast over central-south Republic of the Congo, including the Brazzaville area. The chances of a human being struck by lightning in a given years is roughly 1 in 7,00,000. Lightning occurs on average 50 to 100 times per second worldwide.

Lightning in Goromonzi, Zimbabwe kills three school children

November 21, 2019: Lightning in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East region of Zimbabwe has claimed lives of three school children.  The lightning struck the children of the three Early Childhood Development (ECD) from Rusike Primary School at the time of returning back from school. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a flood warning for the country's southern provinces for Wednesday. According to MSD, parts of Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Masvingo Provinces, as well as southern areas of Midlands Province, are forecast to receive heavier rains in excess of 50 mm in 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, lightning strikes normally kill up to 100 people each year, mostly rural children. Zimbabwe is even cited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the country where a single bolt of lightning claimed its largest number of victims. Lightning strike kills woman in Birgunj, Nepal

February 27, 2019: Lightning strike in Birgunj has claimed life of a woman and injured other woman. The fatality has been identified as 30 years old, Ruafaja Khatun of Birgunj Metropolitan City. Another injured woman is having treatment at Birgunj Health Care Hospital.

Lightning in Pir Mahal, Pakistan kills 3

February 26, 2019: Lightning in Pir Mahal, capital city of Pir Mahal Tehsil in the Punjab province of Pakistan has claimed lives of three bothers. According to Dunya News , a resident of Lower Colony area of Pir Mahal, were working in the fields when lightning struck them as a result they died on the spot. 

Lightning in Panchthar, Nepal kills 1

February 17, 2019: Lightning in Panchthar has claimed life of a person and injured 10 others. Lightning killed Bhagendra Tamang,17, a resident of Pauwasartapka in Phalgunandana rural municipality-3. Natural Disaster: Lightning strikes in india kill 120

Lightning strikes have claimed lives of at least 120 people in four Indian states. Fatalities are from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Lightning disaster killed 57 people in Bihar, 41 in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Madhya Pradesh and 10 in Jharkhand. 

Lightning strike in Tanahun, Nepal kills 2 women

Lightning strike in Tanahun district of Nepal has claimed lives of two women. According to the Nepal Police, 20  years old Mausami Rana and 55 years old Yani Maya Thapa of Kaahushivpur-7 of Dhanbaas died in the disaster.

Lightning strike in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa injures 1

A lightning strike near Elim in Harding in KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa critically injured a person on Saturday morning. The man was rushed to a local clinic in a critical condition, News24 reported quoting KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie.

Lightning storm in KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa has claimed lives of two women. The emergency call centre received multiple reports of lightning strikes at the Jali Informal settlement, Sowetan reported quoting KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie.

Lightning strike in Pyuthan district of Nepal has claimed lives of two people and injured 10 others. Lightning hit Syauliwang VDC-2 Simchaur claiming lives of 15 years old Jugallal Budha and 26 years old Nanda Gharti, Police said.

Lightning, thunderstorm in Maharashtra kill 26

Lightning and thunderstorm across Maharashtra, India have claimed lives of at least 26 people in the past 24 hours. At least thirteen people died when lightning struck the Marathwada region. Another lightning killed eight people in Vidarbha. Most of the victims were farmers and farm labourers, Yahoo News reported.

Lightning in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa kill 32

Lightning strikes in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa have claimed lives of at least 32 people. At least twenty three people died in seven districts of Andhra Pradesh and nine other killed in the eastern state of Orissa.

Lightning strikes in Makwanpur kill 2

Lightning strikes in Makwanpur district of Nepal has claimed lives of atleast two people, Nepal Police said. A lightning strike hit LalBahadur Moktan, 71 years old man, in Bhaarta VDC-6 Dekhari on Friday. Moktan died on the spot.

Germany lightning strikes injure 33 in Rock am festival

At least two lightning strikes injured 33 people at the Rock am Ring festival in the town of Mendig, Germany. Eight people from production teams have been injured when the first strike hit the backstage area at around 1 am, Irish Examiner reported.

Lightning kills 12 in Bangladesh

Lightning in seven different districts of Bangladesh has claimed lives of at least 12 people. Lightning hit Sunamganj, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Gaibandha, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Mymensingh districts of Bangladesh. Lighting in Dirai, Tahirpur and Dharampasha upazilas of Sunamganj district killed four and injured three others, The Daily Star reported. At least two died in Dirai upazila.
