April 2, 2020: At least 20 people have been killed due to the lightning strike in Kintele, a suburb of Brazzaville, the Republic of the Congo (Congo Republic). The high voltage cables broke up over the lightning caused by rains leading to electrocution in the Brazzaville area. Atleast dozen of people are still having treatment at the Talangai Reference Hospital. Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain is forecast over central-south Republic of the Congo, including the Brazzaville area. The chances of a human being struck by lightning in a given years is roughly 1 in 7,00,000. Lightning occurs on average 50 to 100 times per second worldwide.

November 21, 2019: Lightning in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East region of Zimbabwe has claimed lives of three school children. The lightning struck the children of the three Early Childhood Development (ECD) from Rusike Primary School at the time of returning back from school. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a flood warning for the country's southern provinces for Wednesday. According to MSD, parts of Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Masvingo Provinces, as well as southern areas of Midlands Province, are forecast to receive heavier rains in excess of 50 mm in 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, lightning strikes normally kill up to 100 people each year, mostly rural children. Zimbabwe is even cited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the country where a single bolt of lightning claimed its largest number of victims. February 26, 2019: Lightning in Pir Mahal, capital city of Pir Mahal Tehsil in the Punjab province of Pakistan has claimed lives of three bothers. According to Dunya News , a resident of Lower Colony area of Pir Mahal, were working in the fields when lightning struck them as a result they died on the spot.

Lightning and thunderstorm across Maharashtra, India have claimed lives of at least 26 people in the past 24 hours. At least thirteen people died when lightning struck the Marathwada region. Another lightning killed eight people in Vidarbha. Most of the victims were farmers and farm labourers, Yahoo News reported.

Lightning in seven different districts of Bangladesh has claimed lives of at least 12 people. Lightning hit Sunamganj, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Gaibandha, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Mymensingh districts of Bangladesh. Lighting in Dirai, Tahirpur and Dharampasha upazilas of Sunamganj district killed four and injured three others, The Daily Star reported. At least two died in Dirai upazila.
