The disaster, which occurred on February 7, has left five people still missing as more than 200 rescue workers tirelessly comb through the debris in search of survivors. The landslide, described as massive by Georgian authorities, buried four houses under a deluge of mud and debris. The Interior Ministry has reported that the search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with hopes of finding the missing individuals alive. The incident highlights the vulnerability of communities in landslide-prone areas and the importance of preparedness and early warning systems. Southern Philippines Ravaged by Deadly Floods and Landslides, Claiming 20 Lives

February 05, 2024: In a devastating turn of events, the southern Philippines has been battered by severe flooding and landslides, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives. The disaster struck the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte, where torrential rains triggered by a northeast monsoon and a low-pressure area wreaked havoc from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2. According to officials from the provincial disaster agencies, 13 individuals lost their lives in Davao de Oro, with two more missing, while seven fatalities were reported in neighboring Davao del Norte. The calamity has left over 812,000 people affected, forcing approximately 85,000 individuals to seek refuge in evacuation centers. Sadly, this catastrophe is not an isolated incident. Congo Floods and Landslides: Death Toll Rises to 394 as Rescue Efforts Continue

May 8, 2023: The death toll from floods and landslides in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen to 394, with more bodies being recovered, according to BBC. Heavy rainfall in the Kalehe region of South Kivu province on May 6 caused rivers to overflow, causing landslides that engulfed the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi. In all, several villages were submerged, many houses washed away, and fields devastated when rivers in the region burst their banks due to the heavy rains. As rescue workers continue to search for survivors, officials fear that the death toll may rise even further. In addition to the loss of life, the floods have destroyed homes , businesses, and infrastructure, leaving many areas without electricity, clean water, or basic services. September 17, 2022: Various landslides in the Achham district of western Nepal have claimed lives of 22 people and left three others missing. Landslide disaster caused losses in Turmakhand and Dhakari rural municipalities and Kamalbazar municipality. Landslides have caused power outage and closed roads in several areas of Achham.

July 28, 2022: Flash flooding and landslides have claimed lives of at least seven people near Tehran, emergency services in Iran said. According to the Iranian Red Crescent, 14 people have been injured with displacement of more than 500 people. Floods and landslides have buried parts of Imamzadeh Davood with four meters (13 feet) of mud. Last week, flooding in South of Iran killed 22 people.

Landslide on Jammu-Srinagar highway today disrupts annual Amarnath Yatra

July 28, 2022: Landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have briefly disrupted the annual Amarnath Yatra after the closure of the 270-km-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway. According to the officials at the traffic department, the incessant rainfall triggered landslides in Panthyal and Mehad stretches of Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Flash floods and landslides have been reported in Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Reasi districts. All government and private schools in Jammu have been closed. According to traffic police advisory, people are advised not to travel on Jammu-Srinagar highway without confirmation.

September 3, 2021: A landslide in Parbat district of Nepal has claimed lives of six people and left two others missing. The recent natural calamity was triggered due to heavy rainfall in the district affecting Durlung of Kushma Municipality and Modi Mural Municipality. Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and locals have been involved in the rescue operation.

Nepal Floods: Flash flooding in Melamchi kills 7, leaves 60 missing

June 17, 2021: Flash flooding in Helambu and Melamchi areas of Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal have claimed lives of seven people and left sixty others missing. Two fatalities have been identified as Chinese national working at Melamchi Drinking Water Project. Still six Melamchi Drinking Water Project staffs have gone missing including one Chinese national, three Indians and two Nepalese. The recent flood and landslides have damaged around 260 houses and displaced more than 600 people. The helicopters of Nepal Army have been deployed for flood management and the rescue efforts. February 5, 2021: Heavy floods and landslide triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 10 people in central and southern Paraguay over the past few days. Five people died in the Central Department, our in the Asuncion Metropolitan area and one in the Itapua Department.

Flooding and landslides kill two in Santa Catarina, Brazil

January 26, 2021: Flooding and landslides have claimed lives of at least two people in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Around 70 people were evacuated from the Lagoa da Conceicao area after floodwater damaged at least 35 homes. More than 2,000 people have been affected by flooding in Guabiruba, Itajai Valley. According to the Civil Defense, 86 mm of rainfall was recorded in a 3-hour period.

NEPAL: Eleven killed, 20 missing in landslides in Sindhupalchowk

September 13, 2020:  At least eleven people died and 20 remain missing in two separate landslides at three settlements in Barhabise Municipality of Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal. Bodies of seven women and four men have been recovered from the landslides area. Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and local people have been involved in search operations.

Landslide in Darchula kills 2, buries 7 houses

July 21, 2020: A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Darchula district of Nepal has claimed lives of two people and buried seven houses. The landslide disaster occured in Naugad Rural Municipality-6, Parigaun in Darchula district of Nepal. Meanwhile, the Dungri Hydropower’s production house in Mahakali Municipality-3 has also been inundated, which has obstructed the plant activities.

Landslides, floods in Nepal kill 62 and leave 49 missing

July 13, 2020: Landslide and flooding caused by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of 62 people and left 49 others missing this July, Nepal's Disaster Risk Management Center confirmed. Highest fatalities from landslide has been reported from Myagdi district. At least 18 people died two separate landslide disaster in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality and Malika Rural Municipality of Myagdi district. Ten people died in Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot district , seven in Bajhang, five in Kaski, three each in Lamjung and Gulmi, two in Sindhupalchowk and one each in Tanahu, Shankhuwasabha, Doti and Kalikot district of Nepal. On other hand, one person died due to flooding in Raghuganga Rural Municipality of Myagdi district and another person died in Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa district. Meanwhile, floods have also caused havoc in several districts of Terai region of Nepal.

NEPAL: Landslide in Kushma kills 9

June 14, 2020: The landslide in Kushma, the Parbat district headquarters in western Nepal , has claimed lives of at least nine people as of today. The landslide disaster occurred on Saturday night at Kushma Municipality Ward No. 3, in Durlung, Parbat. Three bodies were recovered on the same day while six additional bodies have been dug out today. One child, a 13-year-old boy, is still said to be missing. The personnel of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army have been engaged in searching the missing body. Heavy rainfall triggered landslide in Kusma.

Flooding and landslides in Rwanda and Burundi kill 9

April 21, 2020: Severe flooding and landslides in Rwanda and Burundi have claimed lives of at least nine people and affected 27,000 people from April 17 to 20, 2020. Heavy rainfall triggered landslides in the district of Gicumbi in the Northern Province of Rwanda, with the most affected areas being Nyankenke and Kageyo sectors. Heavy rainfall wiped off the cobblestone road in an area commonly known as "Ku Ntaraga" in Kimisagara. Meteo Rwanda has issued heavy rainfall warnings until April 26, 2020.

Indonesia: Flash floods, landslides in Sulawesi kill 4

April 6, 2020: Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of four people in two districts of Tana Toraja regency in South Sulawesi, Indonesia . According to the Tana Toraja Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), three people died in South Makale district and one in Rantetayo district. The landslide has washed away several roads including the main road connecting Tana Toraja regency and North Toraja regency.

March 11, 2020: Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of atleast 60 people and damaged more than 1 000 homes since January, the Ministry of Emergency Management (MINEMA) reported. The Rwanda Meteorological Agency has predicted the heavy rainfall to continue until May.
