Snowstorm in Hokkaido kills one, dozens injured

Recent snowstorm has claimed life of a person in Obihiro city in Hokkaido region of Japan.  On Tuesday, at least 19 people were injured in traffic accidents in Hokkaido caused by low visibility amid the heavy snowfall.

Snow storm in Eastern Spain kills two female hikers

Strong winds and snow storms across Spain have claimed lives of atleast two female hikers. The two women were found late Sunday in the Tinenca de Benifassa mountain area. The two women along with a man had gone missing on Saturday. A search helicopter rescued the  man.

Snow in eastern Idaho bury three children; 1 confirmed dead

Snow in eastern Idaho buried three children underneath, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old child Friday night. The disaster occurred in the Mack's Inn area around 5:21 p.m. when deluge of snow slid off a cabin's roof, WMUR-TV reported quoting the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. 

Taiwan Snow 2016: Severe weather kills 85

Severe weather in Taiwan has claimed lives of at least 85 people, mostly from hypothermia and the onset of cardiovascular diseases. Snowstorm killed 66 people in Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, further 16 died in Kaohsiung and three in Pingtung, Shanghaiist reported.

Snow emergency declared in Virginia in response to winter storm

Governor Terry McAuliffe has declared snow emergency as winter storm in Virginia is predicted to dump up to two feet of snow. Governor McAuliffe has urged Virginians to prepare for this major winter storm, which could dump up to two feet of snow in central and northern regions. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph, sleet and freezing rain could result in downed trees, power outages and blocked roads.

Pakistan snowstorm kills 1; Dozens tourists evacuated

Snowstorm in Babusar area of Pakistan has claimed life of a person. At least 70 tourists have been evacuated from Naran valley. According to Dunya News , the earliest snowfall in 40 years have dumped three feet of snow on one town in less than 24 hours.

Snowfall in Capracotta, Italy breaks Colorado's world record after 94 years – 100 inches of snow in 24 hours

Snowfall in Capracotta, Italy has set the new world one-day snowfall record with 100.8 inches of snowfall in about 18 hours. It took Capracotta, Italy around 94 years to break earlier record set back between April 20 to 21, 1921 in Silver Lake, Colorado, US when 193 cm (75.8 inch) of snow fell hit the region. Now, Capracotta and Pescocostanzo, between Abruzzo and Molise in central Italy are officially the snowiest places in the world, the Italian weather website, MeteoWeb, has written. The Snowfall in Capracotta was heaviest in the world as one of the photos posted on MeteoWeb even showed a resident standing on top of the accumulation shaking hands with a neighbor. She is in a second-story window.

Boston Snow Storm 2015 close to break its all-time record

Boston Snow Storm 2015 could break its all-time record as it is less than two inches away from its snowiest winter on record. According to NWS Boston, Boston Snow Storm 2015 has already occupied the second position in the list. Total snowfall this 2014-2015 winter season was at 105.7 inches Wednesday morning, which is less than 2 inches below the record of 107.6 inches

Flights canceled as rare snowstorm hits Saudi Arabia

Rare snowstorm in Saudi Arabia has grounded planes at Turaif Domestic Airport. "Snow storms have left a layer of white snow on top of the sand", BBC reported. The bulk of the snow hit a town near the northern city of Tabuk and forced the Bedouin shepherds and their camels to stay in their tents for protection and to keep warm.

Snowstorm in Syria kills 11 including a two-day-old girl

Snowstorm in Syria has claimed lives of at least 11 people this week. "Seven children, including twin baby girls, were among the dead on Sunday", Times of Oman has written quoting the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Recent fatalities include a two-day-old girl in the Firdous district of the northern city of Aleppo and three boys in Beit Sahem, south of Damascus, in the eastern town of Albu Kamal and in southern Syria's Daraa province.

Snowstorms in Japan leave one dead; 300 flights cancelled

Snowstorms in Japan have claimed life of a truck driver. The truck driver died in a pileup on a snowy road in Otake, Hiroshima Prefecture, The Japan Times reported. According to the East Japan Railway Co., four bullet train services on its Akita Shinkansen Line were halted due to strong wind. In Hokkaido, 4,824 houses suffered blackouts in 20 municipalities including Nemuro, where a maximum wind speed of around 144 kph was recorded on Wednesday.

Snowfall in Nepal in December kills a French national

Snowfall in Thuloikharka of Juving VDC in Solukhumbu district of Nepal has claimed life of a French national this Saturday, The Himalayan Times has written quoting the Solukhumbu Police. The deceased has been identified as Matthiful Le Gall, 29 years old, who fell from an altitude of 4,200 metres while returning after scaling Mera Peak Mountain.

State of emergency after freak snowstorm in New York kills 8

A state of emergency has been declared after the freak snowstorm in New York State claimed lives of at least eight people in three days. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency in ten counties. He even deployed the New York State National Guard to affected areas to help residents cope with the severe weather conditions with emergency operations centres activated on Monday night, The Independent has mentioned in its online edition.

Heavy snow in Japan claims 10 lives

Heavy snowfalls in Japan have claimed lives of at least 10 people and injured nearly a thousand. According to the Xinhua News Service, record snowfalls have been observed at 15 locations in Japan’s Kanto and Koshinersu regions. Around 600 flights in Tokyo International Airport have been cancelled. About 49 cm of snow has been recorded in Kofu City in Yamanashi Prefecture, an amount not seen in 120 years. Tokyo Snow Storm 2014 marked as the heaviest snowfall in 20 years!

Heavy snow storm in 20 years in Tokyo, Japan has claimed lives of five people and injured more than six hundred others, Xinhua reported. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, around 25 centimeters of snow has been recorded in Tokyo by Saturday night. The Japan Meteorological Agency has also issued the first heavy snowfall warning for central Tokyo in 13 years. Snow storm in Tokyo has even disrupted domestic flights and bullet trains. AccuWeather.com has described Tokyo snow storm 2014 as a rare event. Tokyo is a difficult place for snow due to the high peak of Mount Fuji, just to the west of the city. It blocks a lot of the storms moving in from the west, and most storms coming in from the south and east are too warm. Below is you tube footage of Tokyo Snow Storm 2014.
