North India cold wave claims 12 more lives, toll 92

North India cold wave claimed 12 more lives in the 24 hours leading to Wednesday evening, taking the death toll due to the extreme winter to 92 since December 1, The Times of India reported. The state government has sanctioned Rs 1.63 crore for 75 districts in UP, around Rs 3.45 lakh for each district for providing relief from the cold wave.

Nepal cold wave claims 2 lives

Cold wave has claimed lives of two persons in Mahottari and Jhapa districts on Wednesday. In Mahottari, 52-year-old  Sujandevi Chaudhary of Banauli VDC died by severe cold, national medias reported. Similarly, cold wave in Arjundhara -9 of Jhapa district claimed life of a 52-year-old Parshuram Darji.  Dozens of flights from various western Terai districts have been cancelled including the flights from Bhairahawa, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj. Several people in Terai regions are suffering from cough, fever and respiratory problems. Cold wave has already claimed lives of two people in Siraha and Mahottari each and one in Parsa districts of Nepal this season. Original post: Natural Disasters List January 8, 2014

Check Worldwide Natural Disasters List + Detail Report Recent Natural Disasters Cold wave in Nepal - Cold wave in Nepal has killed so far 60 people this winter season. -Most of the victims are from the Terai districts of Nepal. -Seven people died of cold in Bara and Rautahat districts yesterday night (Wednesday). Six were killed in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts and two others were killed in Jhapa yesterday only. - Strong winds also destroyed 13 houses at Khunde in Ward No. 4 and 5 of Khumjung VDC in Solukhumbu (gateway to Mount Everest).   -Injured people are having treatment in local Khunde Hospital, Khumjung. Fatalities are reported from Utah, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska. -The Weather Channel said around 27 centimetres of snow covered parts of Wisconsin, with around 20 centimetres in Omaha, Nebraska. -Snowstorm canceled more than 600 flights at Chicago's two airports, O'Hare and Midway.
