Recent Natural Disasters
  • Heavy rainfall and Flooding in Taiwan
    -Heavy rainfall caused by a strong weather front in northern Taiwan. Taipei’s Wenshan, Daan and Zhongshan districts to be worst hit.
    -Hundreds of area reported to be flooded in Wenshan, Zhongshan and Shihlin Districts in Taipei.
    -Agricultural losses estimated NT$500 million (US$16.7 million) caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in Taiwan.
    -Latest map by National Fire Agency shows the areas of Taiwan at high risk of earthquakes, mudslides and other geological disasters.
    -Typhoon Guchol is forecast to cause heavy rainfall and massive flooding in central and southern Taiwan from June 19-22.

  • M 6.4 very strong earthquake in Honshu, Japan (@ 32 km depth) with  epicenter located 16 km SE Ofunato. People of Ofunato and Kamaishi will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI. Moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt by the people of Otsuchi, Tono, Yamada, Ichinoseki, Morioka and Sendai. Light shaking will have felt in Yamagata, Fukushima and Akitaregion.

  • M 3.5 light shallow earthquake in Poland with epicenter located 12 km E Glogów. It will have even felt by the people of Legnica.

  • M 3.3 weak shallow earthquake in Tennessee (@ 8 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km NW from Tiptonville. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Tiptonville, Hayward, Marston, Ridgely, Fulton and Portageville.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in France (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 2 km S Choisy. It will have well felt by the people of Annecy and Geneva.

  • M 5.0 moderate very shallow earthquake in Taiwan (@ 10 km depth) today with epicenter located just 33 km S from Hua-lien. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Fenglin, Hualian, Taichung, Kaohsiung and Su-ao.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthqukae in Honshu, Japan (@ 53 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km NW Shimotsuma. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tsukuba, Saitama, Utsunomiya, Mito, Yokohama and Tokyo.

  • M 5.7 strong earthquake in Solomon Islands (@ 54 km depth) with epicenter located 45 km NW of Auki. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Auki, Tulaghi, Buala and Honiara. Luckily the populated area is very far to cause any damage.

Volcanic Activity List
  • Sumatra/Mount Marapi recent volcanic activity
    -Volcanic ash spewed up to 500 meters into the sky. The volcano spewed volcanic ash for about 10 minutes.
    -Marapi volcano last erupted in 2005.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Cannon Falls
    -Heavy rainfall caused Cannon river to overflow.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Super Typhoon Guchol
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Super Typhoon (STY) 05w (Guchol) was located approximately 550 nm south of Kadena AB, Okinawa.
    -Guchol is still not expected to make landfall anywhere in the Philippines.
    -Typhoon Guchol is forecast to strike Japan at about 18:00 GMT on 19 June.
    -By Sunday morning, Guchol (Butchoy) is expected to be 590 kilometers southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, and 500 kilometers east southeast of Basco, Batanes, by Monday morning.

  • Post-Tropical Cyclone Carlotta
    -Carlotta now a remnant low over the high terrain of Mexico but Life-threatening flash floods and mudslides possible for several more day.
    -As of 03:00 UTC, it was located 145 km ENE of Zihuatanejo Mexico.

    -Two firefighters injured in a forest fire in Keratea, 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Athens.
  • Avalanche on Mount McKinley, Alaska
    -Four Japanese killed in a avalanche on Mount McKinley.
