Moderate Earthquake Shakes Saitama, Japan: Day After Massive Earthquake Forecast To Hit Eastern Tokyo

Disaster Report: M 5.2 moderate earthquake shakes Tokyo, Japan today at 05:48 local time. The quake's epicenter was just 35 km (21 miles) NNE of Tokyo.

Another moderate earthquake recorded 26 km E Narita. Weak shaking will have felt as far as capital Tokyo.

M 5.2 moderate earthquake shakes Tokyo, Japan Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was centered 35 km (21 miles) NNE of Tokyo. It was 32.8 miles deep.

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) mentions magnitude 5.2 at 50 km depth.
No tsunami warning was issued after quake.
Saitama Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan located in the Kantō region of the island of Honshu. The capital is the city of Saitama. This prefecture is part of the Greater Tokyo Area, and most of Saitama's cities can be described as suburbs of Tokyo.

Japan and the surrounding islands straddle four major tectonic plates: Pacific plate; North America plate; Eurasia plate; and Philippine Sea plate.
Since 1900, three great earthquakes occurred off Japan and three north of Hokkaido. They are the M8.4 1933 Sanriku-oki earthquake, the M8.3 2003 Tokachi-oki earthquake, the M9.0 2011 Tohoku earthquake, the M8.4 1958 Etorofu earthquake, the M8.5 1963 Kuril earthquake, and the M8.3 1994 Shikotan earthquake.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Yesterday (2012/05/31), The Geospatial Information Authority of Japan reported the government panel about a massive earthquake that could occur off a peninsula to the east of Tokyo. Researcher Takuya Nishimura forecast an earthquake to hit the area soon of magnitude of around 8. Below is the video about Japanese officials forecast to hit Tokyo soon.




There is another group who predicts the next Tokai Quake in Japan to hit July 08 2012. The prediction was made on March 30th 2011, and refined in January 2012.
