M 4.2 moderate earthquake shakes Nevada today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 9 km NNW from Incline Village-Crystal Bay. It was 7.0 miles deep.

Tremors were well felt in several parts of Nevada and California including Incline Village, Reno, Carson City, Washoe Valley, Arnold, Tahoe City, Truckee, South Lake Tahoe, Dayton, Glenbrook, Sun Valley, Virginia City, Mokelumne Hill, Arnold, Foresthill, Grizzly Flats, Pollock Pines, Loyalton and Sparks.

Nevada is the third most active state for earthquakes in the United States.
Earlier reports has shown that reports there are at least two active faults in the Reno area that may be capable of producing an earthquake of magnitude 7 or higher.
The last "major" earthquake in the Reno area in occurred on April 24, 1914, registering 6.1; the state's most powerful quake to date was a magnitude 7.4 quake south of Winnemucca, in 1915.

Nevada is a state in the western, mountain west, and southwestern regions of the United States.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
