  • M 5.8 very strong shallow earthquake in Christchurch (Canterbury region), New Zealand (@ 4.7 km depth). About 150,000 people will experience a moderate shaking of MMI VI. People of Christchurch, Woodend, Amberley, Lincoln, Rolleston, Burnham, Leeston, Oxford, Darfield area of New Zealand will have felt moderate shaking of MMI V.     Flooding and liquefaction reported in the eastern suburbs. Around 26,000 customers remain without power in eastern Christchurch. Power is out from the New Brighton area through to Shirley. The Christchurch Mail Centre has been evacuated as a precaution and will not re-open this evening. Cantabrians are being warned that more aftershocks could be on the way before Christmas.

    Three buildings are reported to be collapsed. About 80 people are reported to be injured (minor)
    by the earthquake that stuck Christchurch  area. Another M 4.8 earthquake stuck the Canterbury region @ a shallow depth of 8.4 km. The epicenter is 28 km E of Christchurch, New Zealand

    Another M 5.0 moderate aftershocks recorded in South Island of New Zealand. The epicenter is however 21 km ESE of Christchurch, New Zealand (local time Saturday, December 24, 2011 at 06:37:30 AM at epicenter)

    Christchurch International Airport which is just 10 km far from the epicenter was evacuated immediately after the quake.

    Christchurch, Canterbury region, New Zealand. About 75,000 people will experience very strong shaking of MMI VII. People of Christchurch and Woodend will feel strong jolt. It is strongest earthquake recorded today in Christchurch, Canterbury region, New Zealand after series of earthquake hitting this region within 2 hours.

    strong earthquake closer to Christchurch, New Zealand. It is shallower than earlier to be recorded in Christchurch, Canterbury region (@ 3.7 km depth). GNS (New Zealand) reports M 5.8 @ 8 km depth for the first one and M 6.0 @ 6 km depth for the second one

  • M 5.0 moderate shallow earthquake in Pakistan near to Bhag (pop 14,555), Pakistan. The populated area of Jacobabad (pop 170,588) is 72 km far from the epicenter. It will be well felt around epicenter and faintly in 100+ radius from the epicenter. People of Quetta (Baluchistan), Pakistan will feel it faintly.
